Mission Report for March 2020

Your Mission committee meets at 11 a.m., on March 2nd, and anyone may attend; last month we were visited by GRACE Pregnancy Outreach folks and we are open to God’s calling to serve others via input from you.

One immediate need is from Keith and Maria Becker’s ministry in Guatemala. Maria has returned while Keith remains working here collecting both funds to support their Hechos Dos Mission Center in Poptun, as well as donations. They need: school supplies, bed linens, towels and blankets, tools such as chain saws, medical supplies like walkers and crutches & bandages, plus gas generators. If you can in the next few months donate any of the above, Glenn is allowing items to be stored in Rm. 1 of the Fellowship Hall, or they can be taken to the Center of Hope where the Beckers have a storage area. Somewhat akin to this is an idea some of us have about visiting Poptun later this year. Preliminary thinking is now occurring regarding a possible “mission” trip southward; if you might be interested in this, please let a member of the Mission team know.

An update from the Empty Stocking Program states that they brought joy to the faces of 341 children from 138 families; you provided gifts for one father with three children plus funds to support another family. Another note from the READ program, which we help fund, shows that Polk County’s enrollment in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is 1103 children; $25 per child helps give him/her a book every month for a year. Thus, our $750 helps 30 pre-school children in the county.

Are you aware of the “Hospitality Apartments” in Houston near the Texas Medical Center? If you need a place to stay as a caregiver or patient in the TMC, this 46 apartment complex may be used free of charge. Call (713) 790-9120 for more information or pick up a flyer in our Narthex.

Our first (PC) USA Special Offering of 2020 is April 12th, One Great Hour of Sharing. We thank you for your generous support of $1,698 last year for the four special offerings.
