Ministry

The purpose of our Mission ministry is to inform and encourage our members to work in the greater Livingston community promoting and supporting services and resources for those in need. We work within the framework of the PC(USA) by participating in the four annual Special Offerings (One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost, Peacemaking, and Joy Gift) and supplement our annual benevolence budget via guest speakers/programs, food and eyeglass collections, shoe drives, and participation in organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoebox program and our local health department’s Empty Stockings program.

The Mission committee is responsible for recommending for Session approval where we send about 10% of our annual budget each year. Our benevolence giving focuses on mostly organizations which help those in our Polk County region but does include some state, national, and international organizations. Below is the list which we now support with financial donations:

Mission Report for November 2017

Our annual shoebox filling event is set for Nov. 12th after our Thanksgiving luncheon:   supplies are still needed for male seamen (see letter with suggested items for our 25 boxes) and children ages 3-14.  Drop off items in the box in the Narthex, or bring to the luncheon. We are still in need of items such as toy cars/trucks, small tools for older boys, tape measures and key chains, plus grooming and hygiene items such as dental floss, combs and brushes, lip balm, and bandages. For older girls, we need items such as purses, clip-on earrings, bangle bracelets and hair ribbons. Thanks for your great support in the past and a special thank you to Ron Tolls for providing the hand pump flashlights for every shoebox.

Mission will meet on Nov. 6th at 11 a.m. in the office area, and anyone is welcome to attend. We have made our budget recommendations for Session to consider and will be working on upcoming events such as the Empty Stocking program and the Joy offering in December. We are open to new ideas and of course, new members.

Donations for the special Peacemaking offering totaled $215, and 25% of that has been sent to the Livingston SPCA.
